Head of Glenties Summer School considers his future with the event



The head of the Glenties Summer School is considering his future with the event.

Director Joe Mulholland founded the Summer School which has attracted high profile speakers to West Donegal for over 38 years.

But the School has come in for huge criticism this week after it emerged that only 20% of the panel of speakers are female.

Mr. Mulholland said it was difficult to achieve balance but said they would try to get more women on the panels by the start of the event at the end of July.

Mr. Mulholland confirmed to Ocean FM today that he is considering his future with the event and he indicated that the stress of this week’s media coverage has been a factor:

However, he says his decision on whether to step down or not should not affect the future of the Glenties Summer School:

Meanwhile, Sinn Feins Pearse Doherty says he WILL now speak at the MacGill Summer School in Co Donegal next month.

Donegal TD Pearse Doherty had threatened to pull out because of the lack of female participants, but he says he will now attend as the organisers are addressing the issue:
