Donegal fares worst in NW when it comes to complaints about public services



142 complaints were made by the public in the North West about public services last year.

The findings are part of the Ombudsman Report for 2017.

It shows that 79 complaints were received from people living in county Donegal, 41 were from people in county Sligo and 22 complaints were made by people in Leitrim.

The Departments that got the most complaints were Social Protection and Agriculture with the AOES and REPS schemes making up some of the top complaints in Agriculture.

The Council that got the most complaints in this region was Donegal County Council receiving 39 complaints against it last year while there were just 5 complaints against Sligo County Council and 7 for Leitrim.

There were more than 100 complaints made by asylum-seekers in Direct Provision.

The Ombudsman Peter Tyndall says there was also an increase in the number of complaints made against private nursing homes:
