Thousands without power across Northwest as Storm Hector hits



Thousands of homes, farms and businesses across the Northwest have been left without power because of Storm Hector.

The worst affected areas are Donegal and Sligo – where an orange wind warning remains in place.

There are large power outages affecting Ballyshannon, Manorhamilton and Killybegs.

There are also reports of fallen trees across the northwest – and Gardaí are urging motorists to take care on the roads.

Meanwhile Met Eireann say Storm Hector is currently at its worst at the moment with two separate weather warnings in place.

An orange wind warning is in place for Donegal, Sligo, Galway and Mayo – while there’s a yellow warning for 13 other counties including Leitrim.

There’s also a risk of coastal flooding as the winds coincide with high spring tides. The Maradyke and Gibraltar Roads are closed in Sligo.
