Pope visit to cost €20 million

A major security operation will be in place for the Pope’s trip to Ireland in August, costing up to 20 million euro.

It’s been confirmed he’ll visit Knock Shrine in Mayo, the Capuchin Day centre for the homeless, St Mary’s Pro Cathedral and Croke Park in Dublin, before saying mass in front of up to half a million people in the Phoenix Park.

He’ll also meet President Michael D Higgins and Taoiseach Leo Varadkar but won’t travel north of the border or go to Mountjoy Prison.

People hoping to see the Pontiff are being warned they will need to get a ticket for either Knock or the Phoenix Park as both are happening the same day.

More than 5 thousand volunteers have signed up for the event including Pam from Mayo:
