Calls for a DNA database be set up to help people who were adopted or placed in institutions as babies



A Sligo councillor is calling for a DNA database be set up to help people who were adopted or placed in institutions as babies to trace their parents and families.

People Before Profit Councillor Gino O Boyle wants the Taoiseach and the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs Katherine Zappone to support the move.

He also wants all costs involved to be covered by the State.

Cllr O Boyle is still trying to trace the parents of his own father, the late Councillor Seamie O Boyle, who was placed in the Nazareth House as a baby.
