More money for roads in Donegal, Sligo and Leitrim



Almost five million euro more is to be made available this year and next for work on regional and local roads in Donegal, Sligo and Leitrim.

Donegal is to get €2, 248,000; Sligo €1,453,000; and Leitrim €1,196,000.

The money is being allocated under the Community Involvement Scheme, which is very similar to the Local Improvement Scheme under which local communities makes contributions to the costs or work involved:

The Community Involvement Scheme covers general works such as at entrances to fields, removal of banks at the edges of roads, drainage, surface strengthening and repair, building of footways, improvemetn of sight lines, the easing of bends and provision of passing areas.

Independent Sligo councillor Marie Casserly says councils must now immediately submit lists of proposed projects to the Department of Transport.
