New CAP needs to protect small family farms



Sinn Fein says it’s vital that the small farmer is protected in today’s CAP announcement.

Agriculture Commissioner Phil Hogan will reveal new details on the CAP budget post Brexit this morning (10:30am)

Sligo Leitrim TD Martin Kenny says the party has made a submission calling for the Pillar 1 payments under the Basic Payment Scheme to be frontloaded and he expects that to be announced today.

In the future CAP, he has also called for part-time farmers not to be penalised for having to work off the farm to supplement their income.
