Former priest says Catholic Church needs to take a fresh look at its outlook



A former priest says he hopes we’re seeing the end of the Catholic Church as an authoritarian body that dictates morality to others, including women.

Leitrim-based author Michael Harding was speaking following the landslide vote in favour of Repeal of the 8th Amendment which the Catholic church vehemently opposed.

Speaking to Ocean FM News at the Sligo/Leitrim constituency referendum count centre, the 64-year old, who was a priest for five years in the 1980s, said he was a traditional catholic, pro-life and against abortion.

But he said women have the right to choose and to be treated equally to others.
