Donegal set to be the only county to vote NO in today’s Referendum



Donegal is set to buck the national and be the only county in the country most likely to vote NO today with the final tallies showing 52% NO and 48% YES.

Meanwhile the final tally for Sligo Leitrim shows a resounding YES vote of 59% in favour of Repeal with a 41% NO vote.

With the first of our lunchtime reports now – we go first to the Donegal Count Centre in Letterkenny where Barry Whyte has the latest:

Minister of State and Donegal TD Joe McHugh has been giving his reaction to what emerging in the Donegal constituency:

Brendan Byrne of Fianna Fail says he’s very surprised by the pattern of voting in Donegal today.

He says that he expects a No vote to be passed:

But the 14 boxes from south Donegal which are now in the Sligo South Leitrim constituency interestingly ALL voted YES. They include Ballyshannon, Ballintra, Bundoran, Cashelard, Rockfield and Rossnowlagh. These 14 boxes had a 64% Yes vote compared to just 36% who votes No.
