Head of the Leitrim Bar urges businesses to become data-savvy



It’s one week to the Referendum but it’s also exactly one week to when new data protection laws come into force.

The new GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) rules come into force for everyone next Friday the 25 May.

About 10,000 businesses in counties Leitrim, Longford, Roscommon and Sligo will have to ensure that they are in total compliance with the new GDPR rules from that date.

Kieran Ryan of Kelly Ryan Solicitors in Manorhamilton and Sligo is the Head of the Bar Association in Leitrim.

He is warning business that there is no grace period.

He’s urging businesses to make sure to contact your local advisor to ensure your business is compliant or you face hefty fines.
