Carbury retain Super League title

Carbury celebrated retaining the Sligo-Leitrim Super League title last night with a 4-2 defeat of Calry Bohs.

Calry went 2-0 up thanks to goals from Mark Hynes and Paul Logan at Forthill, but the Kelly brothers Christopher and Gareth pulled the home side level by half-time, and second half goals from Keelan Kennoy and an Aaron Murrin penalty ensured Carbury moved 11 points clear at the top of the table with one game left.

Carbury host Arrow Harps in their final game on Friday, while second-from-bottom St John’s will be away to Ballisodare United.

It will be the first of two games in the space of three days for both Carbury and Ballisodare, who clash in the Glasshouse Hotel Cup semi-final on Sunday.

Ballymote Celtic play Strand Celtic in the other semi-final on the same day.

Carbury are also preparing to play Galway side Mervue United in the Connacht Junior Cup final at the Showgrounds on May 27.

In the Sligo Pallets Premier League last night, MCR moved to within one win of claiming the title after a 5-1 win over Benbulben FC at Sean Fallon Park.

Keith Nibbs hit four goals and Ciaran Harvey got the opener, as victory away to Real Tubber tomorrow night will now see MCR crowned champions.

Should they lose, Merville United can claim the title on score difference if they win their last three games, starting with tomorrow night’s home game against Cliffoney Celtic.

Elsewhere last night, Glenview Stars moved third thanks to a 2-0 defeat of Cliffoney Celtic with goals from Damien Shannon and Cole Coyle.
