Minister: Forestry in Leitrim creating jobs and providing hundreds of grants to local farmers



The issue of the amount of forestry plantations in Co Leitrim has been raised in the Seanad.

It’s been claimed in recent months that the social fabric of the county will be completely destroyed if controls are not put on the continuing afforestation.

Senator Grace O’Sullivan spoke during a debate in the Seanad on the issue, saying that people feel they are being replaced by plantations.

But Junior Minister Andrew Doyle responded saying forestry is a vital part the Co Leitrim economy:
