Calls for changes to criteria of Clar funding

There are calls for a change to be made to a government funding programme to make it easier for small communities in rural areas get money.

The deadline is approaching for this year’s CLAR programme, which provides grants for small projects in areas that have been hit by population decline.

Groups applying for funding have to provide matching funding but Fine Gael Councillor Sean McDermott says some small community groups might not be able to raise the money needed.

He wants to see changes made to make it easier for such groups get CLAR grants in the future.

The deadline for applications under the scheme is next Monday the 30th of April.
