IPU says new deal will save most post offices



The Irish Postmasters Union says the new deal reached with An Post will protect the future of many post offices in this region.

Last week, An Post and the IPU reached a deal that they say will invest €50m in the service in the coming years and ensure no compulsory closures.

Members of the IPU in the North West and around the country are now being balloted on the proposals.

Padraig McNamara, Executive member for Sligo and Leitrim, says while there’s no guarantee when a postmaster retires, the deal does safeguard the future of the rural network in most cases:
