Donegal Town BC U16 Girls head off to represent the Region in the ALL IRELAND CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS next weekend. They qualify for this the end of season highlight by winning the Counties Donegal/ Sligo Regional League as well as adding the Supercup Title to their seasons haul. The Donegal Girls will play Mohill BC next Saturday at 12.30 in the wonderful Carroll Arena and then Tullamore BC at 3pm. With 12 teams taking part from all the regions around the country 3 teams will battle for top spot in their own sections. Winners go into Div 1 Semi Finals – lose one game its Div 2 Semi Final and lose 2 and its into the div 3 semi Finals. So no matter what Saturdays game produce in the way of wins its always a Semi to play in regardless against some of the countries top clubs. Our Girls won the Division 2 All Ireland Title 2 years ago at u14 level up in the Antrim Forum but since then have had a big change in personnel. ONLY 5 players from the u14 winning team will take part this weekend Aoife Mackle, Orla Carbery, Kirsty Harron, Sophie Carr and Lucy Clinton with 10 players sadly no longer playing the game in what is a great example of girls not staying in sport. Its great credit to the girls that have come in though and to win the Regional title with a new panel is a fantastic achievement for this group. The team will be led by Captain Orla Carbery from Killybegs with Sophie Carr a major player for the Donegal side. Catherine Campbell, Nadine Battles Mc Geoghan, Courtney Harron and Aoibhe Timoney have really added to the team this season as Aisling Murphy, Ciara Cox, Natasha Prendiville, all push for court time and have improved greatly. The rest of the squad will be made up of 4 u14 players Roisin Gillespie, Emma Meehan, Sarah Donovan and Katie Gillespie who have joined the u16s and are really pushing hard in training to make the team. They have really helped the team prepare and will be huge additions next weekend. Unfortunately 2 or biggest improver’s this season Ava Maxwell and Orla Mc Gonagle aren’t available this weekend and they will be sorely missed. The team is coached by Kevin Sinclair who has great help in Team Manager Rosemary Carr and Rosa Devaney as Assistant coach who has been a fantastic help around the team this season. Best of luck to our Neighbours Blaze who have also qualified from the Region and lets hope both teams do the Region proud.
