The fodder crisis has become so serious, that a Sligo farmer ‘was thinking about shooting his cows and shooting himself’



A Sligo-Leitrim TD has said that the fodder crisis has become so serious that some farmers in the Northwest are suicidal.

In the Dail yesterday, Eamon Scanlon revealed details of a farmer at his wit’s end due to the lack of fodder to feed his stock.

The farmer in his early 60s rang the Department of Agriculture earlier this week telling them that he can barely afford to feed himself at the minute.

Deputy Scanlon called on Minister for Agriculture Michael Creed to take action to alleviate the ongoing fodder shortage:
