12-strong local contingent ready to compete at the West of Ireland

Ryan O’Doherty’s success at qualifying yesterday for the main field of the Radisson Blu West of Ireland Amateur Golf Championship means that there will be 12 players of local interest competing at the event, which gets underway tomorrow morning.

The Enniscrone clubman claimed the 12th and final qualifying place in the main field of 126 competitors yesterday, after booking his place from a play-off involving eight players.

Defending champion Barry Anderson will carry most of the local hopes once more, and plays alongside tournament favourite Alex Gleeson, who has strong connections to the local club.

David Brady, Shane Underwood, TJ Ford, Sean Flanagan and Cian Feeney also tee off in the 9am shotgun start, with Alan Gaynor getting his first round of strokeplay underway ten minutes later.

Ruairi O’Connor, Gary McDermott, O’Doherty and Mark Morrissey all tee off in the second wave from 2pm tomorrow.
