Abortion referendum will be held on the 25th of May

The abortion referendum will be held on the 25th of May.

The government confirmed the date this afternoon.

So after much speculation and debate the date for the abortion referendum has been set.

People will be asked a yes/no question, whether they want to repeal the 8th amendment and allow the Oireachtas to legislate for abortion.

Health Minister Simon Harris says it’s an important day.

Ministers called for people to check the register to make sure they can vote.

The Referendum Commission will shortly begin an information campaign to let people know the facts behind what they’re deciding.

The Repeal side have already held a campaign launch, which the Save the 8th group will launch their efforts to defeat the referendum tomorrow.
