Loneliness a ‘silent epidemic’ according to North West TD

A Sligo/Leitrim TD has described loneliness as ‘a silent epidemic that’s sweeping across the country.’

Fianna Fail Deputy Eamon Scanlon says its a serious problem in rural areas of the north west, affecting not only the mental health of people but their physical health as well.

He’s now calling on people to make submissions to a newly established taskforce on loneliness which aims to come up with a range of recommendations for government, State agencies and policy makers in an effort to tackle the growing problem.
