Sligo the first county to tackle illegal dumping by using Eircodes



Sligo is to become the first county in Ireland to try and tackle illegal dumping by investigating people’s Eircodes.

Sligo County Council launched this pilot project this week.

It means that if you are not registered with a waste provider and you chose to bring your rubbish to a Civic Amenity site you will be asked to provide an Eircode when paying.

The Council will then investigate if all Eircodes are accounted for through these systems.

Independent Councillor Marie Casserly says Tubbercurry will be the first area to be tackled due to the high rate of dumping there recently:

Meanwhile, as part of this new initiative, people are also being warned about the ‘Man in the Van’ service which is illegal.
