Government loses vote on disbandment of Strategic Communications Unit

The Government has been defeated in a Dáil vote that called for the disbandment of the Strategic Communications Unit.

Eighty-five TDs voted in favour of the Sinn Féin motion that seeks to scrap the controversial unit, with 49 voting to retain it.

A review of the SCU is set to be considered by Cabinet possibly as early as next Tuesday.

Sligo man, John Concannon is the Head of the SCU.

Sinn Fein TD for Sligo/Leitrim Martin Kenny says the motion being passed doesn’t mean the unit will now be scrapped….
