Suicide rate in border counties overlooked according to Sinn Fein Spokesperson



There are concerns that the suicide rate in rural border areas may be overlooked because of high rates in other locations, like Belfast.

Jemma Dolan, the Sinn Fein spokesperson on North-South Integration, says that while there are community mental services in Fermanagh that can be accessed through a GP or the emergency services, other alternatives must be explored.

This week, she met with the Permanent Secretary for Health to discuss ways reduce and prevent suicide in border areas.

She feels that when it comes to dealing with suicide, some rural areas may not be getting the attention and services they need:
