FF leader says permission for South Sligo treatment plant must be ‘fast tracked’

The Fianna Fail leader says planning permission has to be granted immediately for a new waste water treatment plant at Lough Talt in South Sligo.

The bacteria cryptosporidium was detected in the Lough Talt water supply last month,  and in the latest round of sampling another six cases have been detected.

13,000 customers are effected and a boil water notice has been in place since the beginning of February.

On Friday it was confirmed the boil water notice will remain in place until at least the end of April or early May.

Speaking in Tubbercurry this afternoon, Michael Martin said that the planning application needs to be fast tracked to ensure that people get clean drinking water.
