Donegal TD claims elderly patients are dying due to lengthy waits on trolleys

A Donegal Deputy has claimed that elderly hospital patients are dying in the Northwest because of excessive waiting times on trolleys.

29 patients over the age of 75 were left waiting on trolleys for over 24 hours at Sligo and Letterkenny University Hospitals last year. This is despite the HSE having a 24-hour target for seeing those over the age of 75.

Meanwhile this afternoon there are 65 patients waiting on trolleys in Northwest hosiptals.

Deputy Pearse Doherty says this is now a crisis and the government needs to step in…..
