Call for councils to have more say on forestry



Leitrim Councillors want the Council to have more of a say in regulating forestry in the county.

The issue was raised by two Fianna Fail Councillors at Leitrim County Council this week.

Justin Warnock called for the County Development Plan to be amended to ensure the Council has more of a say on forestery.

At present the forestry service gives the go ahead to plantations and there is a new forestery appeals body that people can make objections to.

However, Independent Councillor Des Guckian says it’s ironic that Fianna Fail is raising this issue:
