Letterkenny Athletic Club Notes

The recent extreme weather meant that very few Letterkenny Athletic Club runners were able to find competitive action over the weekend. One of the many victims of the weather was the Glaslough 5K in Co Monaghan. The race had been chosen by LAC as an event which we were going to travel to in large numbers. The race will now take place on a future date.
The weather did not prevent Ann Marie McGlynn from racing and from turning in a top class performance. Ann Marie won the  women’s race in the Carmen Runners 10K in an excellent time of 34.39. Ann Marie won the race, in the Co Tyrone village of Carrickmore, by 8 minutes from Leanne Sands of Acorn AC. Ann Marie was 3rd overall, with only race winner, Foyle Valley AC’s Keith Shiels in 32.40 and Acorns AC’s Eoin Hughes in 33.39, being ahead of her.
Several LAC runners took part in Saturday’s Letterkenny parkrun. The first club runner home was Naoise Enright whose time of 22.30 gave him 4th place overall and 2nd place in the M40-44 category. The winner was Gareth McCullagh in 18.32. Paul Lee was a top 10 finisher and the leading M50 runner in 23.31.
Stephen Shiels was the 3rd M45 runner in 23.45 and regular parkrun competitor, Cathal Roarty, completed his 31st run in 23.48. Peter McLean ran 26.26 in his 68th parkrun. Eimear Gibson’s time was 31.37.
Teresa McDaid was in Birmingham as Team Manager of the Irish team at the World Indoor Championships. Teresa now has considerable experience of managing and coaching the cream of Irish athletics, which has been of huge benefit to LAC athletes.
Letterkenny AC’s annual St Patrick’s Day  5K will start at 11.30am on Saturday March 17th. Entries will be taken from Aura Leisure Centre from 10.30am. The club is grateful to Voodoo Venue for their continued, generous sponsorship of the event.
Thw winning numbers in the LAC Mini Lotto draw on March 1st were 5, 13, 18 and 19. There were no jackpot winners. 4 Match 2 winners won €20 each. They were Aidan Smith, Joe Marley, John Curran and Lee Gildea. The jackpot remains at €2,000.
