Hospital backlog following bad weather

There are 27 patients on trolleys at Sligo University Hospital today.

However, the numbers are down to just 7 at Letterkenny Hospital for the first time in weeks, according to the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation.

The organisation has asked for the first two weeks in March to be declared as an emergency period due to the backlog of procedures and surgeries that had to be cancelled as a result of the weather.

Patients of Sligo and Letterkenny hospitals are being contacted to advise of rescheduled procedures that were unable to go ahead last week.
