HSE: Only the most essential homecare services remain in place

Routine appointments and elective and day surgeries have been cancelled in Sligo and Letterkenny Hospital.

Meanwhile, the HSE says only the most essential homecare and community nursing services are being prioritised for older people and people with disabilities today.

The Saolta Hospital Group has confirmed that routine procedures and outpatient appointments have been cancelled today at Sligo and Letterkenny University Hospital.

This includes pre-natal clinics in Ballyshannon and Carrick-on-Shannon.

Dialysis patients will continue to be treated in Letterkenny today and it’s hoped renal and cancer treatments can continue at both hospitals but patients should contact the hospital directly with queries.

The emergency departments operate as normal 24/7 but are very busy due to delayed discharges as a result of the weather.

People are asked to only present to the Emergency Dept in real emergencies.

In the community sector the HSE says it’s trying to maintain critical services in the home to complex paediatric cases and adults with high dependency.

A HSE crisis management team is in place for North West and will meet again later to decide on the best course of action.
