Coroners Court in Sligo returns verdict of accidental death in kayaking case

A Coroners Court in Sligo today returned a verdict of accidental death in the case of a kayaker who got into difficulty at Aughris Head last year.

Paddy McCarrick of Garavogue Villas in Sligo was in his sixties and an avid outdoors enthusiast.

The court heard that drowning was most likely the secondary cause of death and that some heart difficulties the primary cause that led to the incident off the coast of west Sligo on the 19th of June last year.

The Coroner Eamon MacGowan and An Garda Siochana sympathised with his family who were present, saying it was clear Mr. McCarrick was out in the fresh air doing what he loved at the time.
