Hotel group headed up by Bunninaden-native records huge pre-tax profits



The hotel group headed by Sligoman Pat McCann has reported a 75% increase in pre-tax profits for the year to the end of December.

McCann, a native of Bunninadden, Co Sligo, is CEO of the Dalata Hotel Group.

Among its hotels is the Clayton in Sligo.

The group’s pre-tax profits for the year rose to €77.3m from €44.1m while revenues increased by almost 20% to €348.5m from €290.6m.

McCann began his hotel career at 16 while a student in Colaiste Mhuire in Ballymote.

He began work as a porter in the Yeats Country Hotel in Rosses Point.

He later worked with the Ryan hotel group, eventually becoming chief executive of the Jury’s Doyle Group.

He had expected to retire in 2006 but was approached by a group of private investors to form Dalata.
