Work to start to upgrade Blacklion water supply

Work is to start on Monday to upgrade the water supply in Blacklion, Co Cavan.

It will include the replacement of damaged water mains as well as repairs to connections to some houses.

More than a kilometre of old pipes will be replaced as well as old and damaged connections, particularly where there are shared backyard connections in Marion Crescent.

The work is expected to last about 14 weeks.

There have been problems for some time in Blacklion with rust-like substances in the water from old cast-iron pipes.

Local Fianna Fail Councillor John Paul Feely says the work is part of an overall leakage reduction effort funded by Irish Water
