Two more positive detections of cryptosporidium in Sligo water supply



The boil water notice in county Sligo is to remain in place indefinitely after two more positive detections of cryptosporidium were found.

It’s after a two-week testing and sampling programme concluded this week and found two more positive detections of the bacteria.

Around 13,000 people have been affected in the south and west of the county for over two weeks now.

Seamus Granahan Regional Operations Manager for Irish Water outlined the update to Ocean FM News after their latest briefing with the HSE yesterday evening:

He says Irish Water is working as fast as possible to get planning approved for a new treatment system at Lough Talt.

However, he said at this stage it’s impossible to confirm to people just how long the boil water notice would be in place for people in south and west Sligo.
