Coolera/Strandhill GAA Club Notes

Talk on Men’s Health

“To return to football at the age of 47, and to start that new journey with the old familiar agony of a session on the hills of Lough Key Forest Park takes a certain mindset. The sort of mindset that sees a man through the much bigger undertaking of overcoming two bouts of cancer with a smile on his face and more to contribute”. So wrote Colin Regan in the Leitrim Observer on Oct 25th 2017 referring to Martin McHugh of Aughnasheelin. Martin is the former Leitrim goalkeeper, a member of the last Leitrim team to win the Connacht Championship in 1994. In 2009 Martin, after noticing a lump in his groin was diagnosed with testicular cancer. He underwent surgery, and after a three year recovery process, he resumed his football career. He was later to be diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2015. Despite this, Martin won his first Leitrim Intermediate Championship with his native club last October at the age of 47. He has since retired, and now gives talks on the topic of Men’s Health. Our welfare officer Geraldine McGuinn has arranged for Martin to address our members, and any other interested parties, on Friday Feb, 23rd in Strand Celtic Clubhouse at 7.30. A very informative and enjoyable evening is in store, with tea/coffee afterwards.

Lotto

The lotto numbers drawn on Monday Feb. 19th were 10, 17, 24 and 29. There was no winner, nor were there any Match Three winners. The jackpot now stands at €5500. The draw takes place each Monday in the clubhouse at 9.00.
