Farmers who had payments withheld on land deemed ‘ilegally burnt’ can appeal



The Minister for Agriculture says an appeals process is open to any farmer who had payments withheld on lands deemed ‘illegally burnt’ last summer.

33 landowners on Killery mountain on the Sligo Leitrim border are just some of the many around the country affected by this issue after fires burnt out of control during a prolonged dry spell last May.

Farmers claim there is no proof they started the fires.

Minister Michael Creed says if they are unhappy there is an independent appeals process open to them.

When asked if his Dept is confident that at least some of the fires were started deliberately this was the Minister’s response to Ocean FM News:
