Sligo has the highest commercial vacancy rate in the country

County Sligo has the highest commercial vacancy rate in country according to new figures.

The figures show that nearly 20% of units that could be used to do business are lying empty.

Meanwhile, Ballybofey in county Donegal is the town with the highest number of empty commercial units in the country.

The figures from GeoDirectory show that of the nearly 20% empty commercial units in Sligo over 70% of them have been lying idle for over 3 years.

Leitrim and Donegal recorded slight decreases in the number of empty units last year.

But over 15% of units are still lying idle in Leitrim.

Taking the towns into consideration Ballybofey still has the highest vacancy rate in Ulster and indeed the country at over 28%.

Tubbercurry in county Sligo had the highest increase year on year from the fourth quarter of 2016 to the fourth quarter of 2017.

The figures will no doubt be something that senior government Ministers will have to answer questions on when they arrive in Sligo later this week for the launch of a special plan to outline the vision for the country over the next twenty years.
