Call for Sligo to be given ‘city’ status in new plan

A local businessman has said that Sligo must be given ‘city status’ in the National Planning Framework.

The Ireland 2040 document is being launched on Friday after Taoiseach Leo Varadkar holds a special cabinet meeting at Sligo IT.

At this stage it’s not know what will be in the National Planning Framework, but Sligo is expected to be designated as the regional capital of the Northwest.

But restuarant owner, Anthony Gray says for Sligo to thrive, it has to be given city status like Galway.
