Glencar Inn Saturday Division One

Castlefin  Celtic Reserves     4            v 2                   Arranmore United

Castlefin secured all three points after an impressive home win over Arranmore. The hosts took time to settle and found themselves behind when Paul Early pounced on a loose ball in the box and fired home after 20 minutes. The home side responded and Keith Nelis fired home at the back post after a Ronan Tourish cross. Nelis got his and Castlefin’s second when he broke clear from a James Mc Menamin through ball to slot home with 30 minutes played. Arranmore responded and equalised when Early struck a shot from the edge of the box and it found the bottom corner. As the half drew to a close Nelis completed his hat-trick when he headed home a Mc Menamin free kick. Castlefin started the second half where they left off and Nelis scored another when he latched onto long ball to smash to the net in the 60th minute. The hosts continued to press and Thomas Devlin, Ronan Tourish and Damien Mc Glinchey all had chances to increase the lead but failed to beat the visiting keeper. Best for Castlefin; Keith Nelis and Conor Dalton.

Voodoo Venue Cup

Glencar Celtic                                   3            v 0                   Keadue Rovers Reserves

Glencar hosted Keadue Rovers Reserves in the Cup at Rathmullan. Both teams tried to play football on a heavy pitch and Glencar’s hard work paid off when they opened the scoring through a real poacher finish from striker Shane Hilley. The home side kicked on from that and there was no mistaking the goal of the game, Glencar’s second, when inform striker Lee Mc Monagle scored a bullet from the edge of box  to send the Celts in two up at the brake. In fairness to the away side battled well and both teams cancelled out each other for a long period in the second half. The third goal, which killed the game as a contest, was slotted home after great work by the evergreen Kevin Rafferty played in Paddy Collins who neatly finished for make it 3-0. Hugh Moy was best for away side while Paddy Collins shone brightest for the home side. Referee: Con Mc Laughlin

Glenea United Reserves       1 v 0                   St. Catherines Reserves

(No Report Submitted)

Glenea United Reserves qualified for the next round of the Voodoo Venue Cup with this well-earned victory over the Killybeg’s men. In wintry conditions it was the home side that started the better but were unable to create many clear cut chances and were almost made to pay on 25 minutes when the away side failed to take a chance from close range. Glenea finally made the breakthrough on 35 minutes when Michael Mulhern’s through ball found Sean Mc Bride and he chipped the keeper from the edge of the box. In the 2nd half the home side continued to dominate the game and even when St Catherine’s threatened they could not create any clear scoring chances. As the half progressed the away side threw more men forward and in doing so left themselves open to the counter attack which Glenea failed to take advantage off and were left to sweat until the end of the game. Best for Glenea were Michael Mulhern  & Michael Barry.
