Tory Island residents may have to leave if they do not get a new ferry service



The vast majority of residents of a Co Donegal island will be forced to leave if they do not get a new ferry service.

It’s planned that from April 1st, Tory Island’s current ferry service will be replaced by a vessel built in 1976.

A series of local meetings has been held on the issue in the wake of the contract being awarded to the operator of the four-decade-old Queen of Aran, and the 150 residents from the island are planning to protest outside Leinster House next week.

Donegal Deputy, Pearse Doherty says that if the government doesn’t purchase a new ferry, then there may be nobody left on the island:
