Calls for forestry companies to pay for damage to roads



A Sligo councillor is calling for forestry companies to be made pay for the damage they cause to roads.

Fianna Fail Councillor Joe Queenan says that in many cases, they are ‘destroying’ roads, with the local authority ‘left to pick up the pieces.’

At a council meeting this week, Senior Planner Frank Moylan pointed out the majority of forestry development are exempt from planning permission and from paying development contributions.

But Councillor Queenan says they should be forced to pay under a specific scheme:
