UPDATE: Teenager questioned about hoax calls released without charge



Gardai have questioned a 16 year old in connection with an investigation into a series of hoax calls to a number of businesses in Sligo and Leitrim.

Gardai arrested a 16 year old in Dublin yesterday. He has since been released without charge.

 

Gardai in Leitrim confirmed this week that the hoax call that led to the evacuation of Tesco in Carrick-on-Shannon on the 10th of January was one of 8 such calls made to businesses in Leitrim and Sligo recently.

Two calls were made to a supermarket in Manorhamilton and 2 other calls were made to a business in Mohill.

Another two incidents are being investigated in Sligo after a call was made reporting that a person had fallen from the window of a hotel in Sligo town.

Gardai arrested a 16 year old in Dublin yesterday and he was brought to Carrick-on-Shannon Garda Station for questioning.

He was released without charge last night and.a file is being prepared for the DPP.

Superintendent Kevin English thanked businesses for their cooperation on the days in question and said it caused huge disruption to those businesses to be evacuated.

However, he said it was necessary to ensure the safety of the public.
