Sligo Director of Housing says private housing ‘crucial’ to tackling shortage



A Director of Services for Housing in the North West says the lack of homes being built by private developers is one of the major issues contributing to the crisis at present.

Bartley Gavin of Sligo County Council says private developers are key to try and resolving housing and homeless issues.

It comes as the latest homeless figures for this region show there are 27 homeless people in Sligo and 19 in Donegal. There was noone classified as homeless on the week in question in Leitrim.

Mr. Gavin says while the homeless figures in this region vary greatly from week to week, the major challenge is finding permanent accomodation to move these people into.

He says the lack of supply is one issue that is impacting housing supply in all counties:
