The Mc Guigan brothers Dempsey and Fellan were at different venues at Collegiate meets in U S Throwing the heavy hammer Dempsey with an eye on Commonwealth Games in Oz Gold Coast April with the 16 lb ball ,Fellan in Texas was out over 15m while Dempsey at Vanderbilt meet in Nashville over 20m close to his pb and Donegal best both 2nd in respective competitions with Dempsey moving to 17th on Collegiate ranking nationally in US

A small number of underage athletes were at Athlone the national combined champs with Joseph Gillespie in the medals a 1.51m high jump important to the overall points total
