Scanlon says pro-life TDs in Fianna Fail want to ensure their voice is heard

Sligo/Leitrim Deputy Eamon Scanlon was the only one from the region to attend a meeting of pro-life Fianna Fail TDs in Leinster House last night.

The meeting followed the recent announcement by Fianna Fail Leader Micheal Martin that he was in favour of repealing the 8th Amendment.

Although many party TDs were taken aback by Mr Martin’s announcement, only eight turned up for last night’s meeting.

Speaking to Ocean FM News, Deputy Scanlon said apololgies were received from about 17 or 18 TDs unable to attend the meeting, which lasted about an hour and a half.

Fianna Fail TDs have denied that there’s a split in the party over the issue, which will be discussed again tonight at a parliamentary party meeting.
