Sligo’s Mark Irwin scored a crucial goal as the Irish Garda team beat their counterparts from Norway 4-1 on Wednesday, January 10, to book their place at the European police championships in Prague this summer.

The Ballymote Celtic striker played 85 minutes in Oslo and netted the second goal with a powerful header as the game was in the balance at 1-1 midway through the second half. Irwin is the first Garda based in Sligo to be included in the men’s national representative side. The squad is managed by former Bohemians, UCD and current Athlone Town coach Aaron Callaghan. He spoke to Ocean FM’s Darragh Cox on Ocean FM’s Sunday Sports.
