More job losses for the Northwest as Celtic Weave China in Ballyshannon closes

The north west has been hit by yet another jobs blow.

This time it’s at Celtic Weave China in Ballyshannon, which is to cease production with the loss of 13 jobs.

Celtic Weave China Limited, of Cloghore, Ballyshannon, is to stop production and trading, after current orders are fulfilled.

In a statemement, directors Tommy and Patricia Daly say the company is not going into any form of liquidation, and that all liabilities will be settled, including statutory redundancy payments due to staff.

It bring to almost 60 the number of jobs lost in the region in recent weeks.

Yesterday, ProMinent Fluid Controls in Sligo, where 24 people are employed, confirmed it will close this year.

And just before Christmas, Union Food Distributors, based between Carraroe and Ballygawley in Sligo, closed after more than 40 years with the loss of about 20 jobs.
