Former hospital manager in Donegal says no easy solution to hospital crisis



A former manager at Letterkenny University Hospital says there’s been an explosion in the demand for acute care services in recent years.

Paddy Rooney was assistant General Manager at LUH from 2001 until September of last year but he started working in the hospital in a different capacity back in the 90s.

He says the numbers now presenting to the Emergency Department has more than doubled since then.

Speaking to Ocean FM today as 44 people are on trolleys at the hospital, Mr. Rooney says there are a number of reasons for escalation in numbers over the years including the increased threat of litigation:
