Two men, including Derry Cllr Gary Donnelly, arrested in connection with Denis Donaldson murder



Two men, one of them a elected representative from Northern Ireland, have been arrested in Co Donegal for the murder of a former British agent over a decade ago.

Denis Donaldson was shot dead at remote cottage near Glenties in 2006 – just months after being exposed as an M-I-5 operative.

One of the men his in his 30s, while Ocean FM can reveal that the other man is 45-year-old dissident republican Cllr Gary Donnelly from Derry.

Donnelly, who sits as an independent on Derry & Strabane District Council was arrested in the Rosses area of West Donegal yesterday afternoon.

He was arrested shortly after he spoke at a commemoration event.

Cllr Donnelly was previously arrested in relation to the murder in 2011, but was released without charge.

Both men are being held at Letterkenny Garda Station.
