Paddy Harte’s son says his late father tried to build bridges



Former Donegal politician Paddy Harte has passed away.

The 86-year-old served as a Fine Gael TD for Donegal North East from 1961 until 1997.

Between 1981 and 1982, he was Minister of State at the Department of Posts and Telegraphs in Taoiseach Garret FitzGerald’s government.

Speaking to Ocean FM News, his son, Paddy Harte Jnr says his father will be remembered for trying to build bridges….

Sligo/Leitrim Fine Gael TD Tony McLoughlin paid tribute to the late Paddy Harte.

Deputy McLoughlin recalled how his late uncle, Sligo/Leitrim TD Joe McLoughlin and Paddy Harte served together in the Dail in the 1960s and 70s.

Donegal Fianna Fail TD and leas cathaoirleach of the Dail, Pat the Cope Gallagher, served with Paddy Harte on Donegal County Council and in Dáil Eireann.

In a tribute this afternoon, Deputy Gallagher said he always found Paddy Harte to be a committed politician, a firm advocate for justice and fairness, and a Donegal man through and through.
