Denis Donaldson murder : Derry Cllr Gary Donnelly released without charge



A elected representative in Northern Ireland who was arrested by Gardai in Co Donegal yesterday in connection with the murder of Denis Donaldson has been released without charge.

Derry and Strabane District Cllr Gary Donnelly was arrested after he spoke at a commemoration in West Donegal yesterday.

Gardai are to send a file to the Director of the Public Prosecution Service. It was the second time that Gary Donnelly was arrested in connection with the murder. He was also arrested in 2011 and released without charge.

Mr Donaldson, a former senior Sinn Fein official, was shot at a remote cottage near Glenties in April 2006.

Another man in his 30s who was also arrested yesterday afternoon is continuing to be questioned.
