NW Public Health Consultant urges vulnerable people to get the flu vaccine

A leading contagious disease expert based in the north west is urging carers and those who work in hospitals and nursing homes to get the flu vaccine.

His call comes as concern grows over two strains of the flu which have resulted in a number of deaths.

One strain affects young people, the other hits the elderly and those with chronic conditions that make them vulnerable to infection.

But Sligo-based Dr Anthony Breslin, Specialist in Public Health Medicine (Communicable Diseases and Environmental Health) says it’s nothing unusual for this time of year.
